I love the audacity of the three guys who are faced with a fiery death if they do not bow down and worship the golden idol!
“O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God whom we serve is able to save us. He will rescue us from your power, Your Majesty. But even if He doesn’t, we want to make it clear to you, Your Majesty, that we will never serve your gods or worship the gold statue you have set up.” (from Daniel 3 NLT)
I love that.. “God will rescue us, but even if He doesn’t rescue us… we are still going to do the right thing! We are still going to worship the one living God!”
They knew God was real. They knew God was able. They were willing to die for what they believed. No wonder, when God saw their faith, He personally sent His angel to rescue them!
Nebuchadnezzar jumped up in amazement and exclaimed to his advisers, “Didn’t we tie up three men and throw them into the furnace?”
“Yes, Your Majesty, we certainly did,” they replied.
“Look!” Nebuchadnezzar shouted. “I see four men, unbound, walking around in the fire unharmed! And the fourth looks like a god!”
Then Nebuchadnezzar came as close as he could to the door of the flaming furnace and shouted: “Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, servants of the Most High God, come out! Come here!”
When they came out of the furnace, the same furnace that was so hot that it had even killed the guards that threw them in, they didn’t even smell of smoke. God had personally intervened in their terrible situation by sending heavenly help!
And that’s not even the end of the story. God used that terrible situation to have them promoted!
Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego to even higher positions in the province of Babylon.
I am thankful that I serve the same God as those three men. He is the same God today! He is still able to do amazing miracles. If you are going through a terrible trial, God is still able to deliver you! God is still able to do the impossible!
I love what a wise man of God once said:
Anything God has even done, He can do now. Anything God has ever done anywhere, He can do here. Anything that God has ever done for anyone, He can do for you. ~ A.W. Tozer
Question: What situation have you personally gone through where God has intervened in a miraculous way? What situation are you still praying about?
