Are You Passing the Test?

In Book of Exodus, God tells Moses regarding the manna in the wilderness:

“I will test them in this to see whether or not they will follow My instructions.”

That line stops me in my tracks.

God wasn’t just feeding Israel. He was testing them.

And He still does the same with us.

1. The Test Is Often Wrapped in Provision

God provided manna daily. It was miraculous. Bread from heaven. But it came with instructions:

  • Gather only what you need.
  • Don’t hoard it.
  • Rest on the seventh day.

The test wasn’t about ability. It was about obedience.

Sometimes the greatest tests in your life are hidden inside blessings:

  • A new opportunity.
  • Financial increase.
  • A growing ministry.
  • A relationship.

The question isn’t, “Can you handle this?”
The question is, “Will you follow My instructions?”

2. Tests Reveal What’s in Your Heart

God already knew what was in Israel’s hearts. The test wasn’t for His information. It was for their revelation.

Tests expose:

  • Trust or fear
  • Gratitude or complaint
  • Discipline or impulsiveness
  • Faith or control

When pressure comes, your heart shows up.

And here’s the hard truth: You don’t really know what’s inside you until you’re tested.

3. Small Tests Lead to Bigger Assignments

The manna test seemed small. Just pick up bread and follow instructions.

But this generation was being prepared to enter the Promised Land.

If they couldn’t trust God for daily bread, how would they trust Him for giants?

You don’t get promoted by talent alone.
You get promoted by faithfulness.

Are you:

  • Handling money with integrity?
  • Showing up prepared?
  • Keeping your word?
  • Staying humble when praised?

Those are tests.

Pass the small ones. Bigger ones are coming.

4. Complaining Is Failing the Test

The wilderness generation failed repeatedly because they grumbled.

They questioned God’s goodness.
They doubted His provision.
They longed for Egypt.

Let me say this plainly:
Complaining is often a sign that you’re failing the test of trust.

Gratitude, on the other hand, is evidence of maturity.

When things don’t go your way, do you:

  • Criticize?
  • Withdraw?
  • Blame?

Or do you trust?

5. The Test Is About Relationship

God wasn’t trying to trap Israel. He was training them.

Testing isn’t punishment. It’s preparation.

A good father tests his children so they grow.
A coach tests his athletes so they improve.
A teacher tests students so they advance.

God tests His people because He intends to entrust them with more.

So… Are You Passing the Test?

Right now, somewhere in your life, you are being tested.

It may be:

  • Your patience.
  • Your integrity.
  • Your faithfulness.
  • Your response to criticism.
  • Your stewardship of influence.

Don’t despise the test.

Lean into it.

Ask yourself:

  • What is God teaching me here?
  • Where do I need to obey more precisely?
  • What would faith look like in this situation?

The wilderness wasn’t wasted time. It was training ground.

And the difference between wandering and entering the promise often comes down to this:

Did you follow His instructions?

Pass the test.
