One of the most comforting—and confronting—truths in Scripture is this:
God sees you.
Not the public version of you.
Not the Sunday-morning you.
Not the “I’m fine” you.
He sees the real you.

Seen in the Wilderness
In Genesis 16, a young woman named Hagar runs into the desert. She is used, mistreated, pregnant, and alone. No one is looking for her. No one is defending her. No one seems to care.
But God meets her there.
And she gives Him a name: El Roi — “the God who sees me.”
Think about that.
A hurting, marginalized woman becomes the first person in Scripture to give God a name.
Why?
Because He saw her.
Not just physically.
Personally. Compassionately. Intentionally.
Some of you reading this feel like Hagar. Overlooked. Misunderstood. Pushed aside. Invisible.
You are not invisible to God.
Seen in Your Faithfulness
In Matthew 6, Jesus says that when you pray in secret, give in secret, fast in secret, your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
God sees:
- The early mornings when you open your Bible.
- The quiet prayers no one hears.
- The unseen acts of kindness.
- The integrity when no one is watching.
We live in a culture obsessed with visibility—platforms, followers, applause. But heaven measures differently.
God sees what others scroll past.
Seen in Your Struggle
In Psalm 56, David writes that God keeps track of his sorrows and collects his tears in a bottle.
That is not poetic exaggeration. That is personal theology.
God notices your anxiety.
He notices the tear you wipe away quickly.
He notices the private battle no one else understands.
You may feel forgotten.
You are not forgotten.
But There’s Another Side
Here’s the part we don’t talk about as much:
God also sees the hidden sin.
In Hebrews 4:13 it says nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight.
This isn’t meant to crush you—it’s meant to free you.
Because the One who sees everything is the same One who sent Jesus to redeem everything.
He sees fully.
He loves completely.
He forgives willingly.
You don’t have to pretend with Him.
Why This Matters
If God sees you:
- You don’t need to perform for approval.
- You don’t need to panic when you’re overlooked.
- You don’t need to despair when you suffer.
- You don’t need to hide when you fail.
You are already seen.
And being seen by God is better than being applauded by the world.
A Question for You
Where do you feel unseen right now?
In your marriage?
In your ministry?
In your workplace?
In your aging body?
Let this truth settle deep into your heart:
God sees you.
And the God who sees you is not distant.
He is near.
