There are moments in life when it seems like God is silent.
Prayers appear unanswered. The world feels chaotic. Evil often looks louder than goodness. In those moments, many people quietly wonder: Is God still working?
The Bible answers that question with a confident yes.
Jesus once said, “My Father is always working, and so am I.” Even when we cannot see it clearly, God is continually at work in the world and in our lives.

Here are several ways we know this is true.
1. God Is Still Changing Human Hearts
One of the clearest signs that God is working is the transformation of people’s lives.
Selfish people become generous. Addicted people become free. Angry people become gentle. Proud people become humble.
Human effort alone rarely produces deep, lasting transformation. But God does this every day.
Whenever a person turns toward God, finds forgiveness, and begins to live a new life, it is evidence that God is still working.
2. The Gospel Is Still Spreading
For over 2,000 years the message of Jesus has continued to move across the world.
Empires have risen and fallen. Philosophies have come and gone. But the gospel continues to reach new nations, languages, and people groups.
Millions of people are coming to faith in Christ across Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Churches are being planted. Scriptures are being translated. Missionaries continue to go.
This is not human momentum alone. It is the ongoing work of God.
3. God Still Answers Prayer
Prayer is not just a religious ritual—it is a real conversation with a living God.
Christians around the world continue to experience answered prayers: guidance in difficult decisions, provision in times of need, healing, peace in crisis, and doors opening at just the right moment.
Sometimes the answers come quickly. Sometimes they come slowly. Sometimes they come in ways we did not expect.
But again and again, those who pray sincerely discover that God is listening and responding.
4. The Holy Spirit Is Still Changing Us
Spiritual growth is another sign that God is working.
Many believers can look back over the years and say:
- “I am more patient than I used to be.”
- “I forgive more easily.”
- “I love God more deeply.”
- “My priorities have changed.”
This quiet inner transformation is the work of the Holy Spirit. The Bible calls it producing fruit in our lives—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
These qualities do not grow naturally in human hearts. They grow because God is working within us.
5. God Is Still Building His Church
Across the world, every Sunday, millions of believers gather to worship, pray, and learn from Scripture.
Churches continue to serve their communities, care for the poor, mentor young people, and share the message of Christ.
The church is not perfect—far from it. But despite its weaknesses, it continues to exist and grow generation after generation.
Jesus promised, “I will build my church.”
And two thousand years later, He still is.
6. God Is Quietly Guiding Our Lives
Often we only recognize God’s work when we look backward.
A conversation that happened at the right time.
A closed door that later proved to be protection.
An unexpected opportunity that changed the direction of our lives.
What seemed random in the moment later reveals the fingerprints of God’s guidance.
God often works quietly behind the scenes, arranging circumstances in ways we could never see at the time.
7. God’s Promises Still Stand
Perhaps the greatest evidence that God is working is simply this: His promises have never failed.
Through wars, crises, and cultural change, God continues to keep His word.
People who seek Him still find Him.
Those who trust Him still experience His faithfulness.
Those who follow Him still discover life, purpose, and hope.
God’s character has not changed.
Final Thought
We often look for dramatic signs of God’s activity—miracles, revivals, or extraordinary events.
But most of God’s work happens quietly:
- In a changed heart
- In a faithful prayer
- In a growing church
- In a life slowly becoming more like Christ
The truth is simple and encouraging:
God has never stopped working.
Even when we cannot see it clearly, He is still guiding, saving, transforming, and building His kingdom.
And very often, He is doing some of His most important work inside us.
