It is the most important question ever asked.
When Jesus turned to His disciples in Gospel of Matthew 16 and asked, “Who do you say I am?”, He wasn’t conducting a casual survey. He was drawing a line in the sand. Your answer to that question shapes your eternity, your identity, your purpose—and your peace.
So let’s slow down and answer it carefully.

1. Jesus Is a Real Historical Person
Jesus is not a myth, legend, or religious idea.
He was born in Bethlehem during the reign of Caesar Augustus. He lived in Nazareth. He walked the dusty roads of Galilee and Judea. He was crucified under Pontius Pilate.
Even secular historians acknowledge His existence. The question is not whether He lived. The question is who He is.
2. Jesus Is the Son of God
In Gospel of John 1:14 we read:
“The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us.”
Jesus did not merely represent God. He revealed Him. He said, “Anyone who has seen Me has seen the Father.”
He forgave sins.
He calmed storms.
He raised the dead.
He accepted worship.
No prophet ever spoke or acted like this.
He didn’t say, “I will show you the way.”
He said, “I am the way.”
3. Jesus Is the Savior
The heart of Christianity is not moral teaching. It is rescue.
In Gospel of Mark 10:45 Jesus says He came “to give His life as a ransom for many.”
On the cross, He took upon Himself the penalty for sin—your sin and mine. The justice of God and the love of God met in one place: the cross.
And three days later, the tomb was empty.
The resurrection is not a side note. It is the foundation. Without it, Christianity collapses. With it, everything changes.
4. Jesus Is Lord
After the resurrection, the disciples did not simply call Him “Teacher.” They called Him “Lord.”
That word means Master. King. Authority.
Jesus is not just someone we admire. He is Someone we follow.
He doesn’t simply improve your life. He becomes “Lord” of your life—and transforms you from the inside out.
5. Jesus Is Still Alive
Christianity is not about a dead founder.
It is about a risen King.
The same Jesus who walked out of the tomb still calls people today. He still forgives. He still restores. He still transforms broken hearts, failing marriages, anxious minds, and wandering lives.
Millions across centuries testify to this living reality.
6. Who Do You Say He Is?
Some say He was a good teacher.
Some say He was a prophet.
Some say He was a revolutionary.
But Jesus didn’t leave those options open for long.
If He claimed to be God and wasn’t, He was either deceived or deceptive. If He rose from the dead, then He is exactly who He said He is.
Neutrality is not really an option.
Why This Matters
If Jesus is just a moral teacher, you can take His advice or leave it.
If Jesus is the Son of God, everything changes.
Your sin can be forgiven.
Your shame can be removed.
Your fear of death can disappear.
Your life can have eternal meaning.
This is not merely theology. It is reality.
The Personal Question
For 2,000 years, this question has echoed across history:
Who is Jesus?
Not who your church says He is.
Not who your parents say He is.
Not who culture says He is.
Who do you say He is?
Because your answer will shape the rest of your life—and the life to come.
And if you look closely, honestly, and humbly, you may find that the One you are seeking has been seeking you all along.
