Why I Enjoy Using Alexa In My Home

A few years ago, I wasn’t convinced I needed a voice assistant in my home. I’ve lived a full life without one—why start now? But like many things in life, once I gave it a try, I realized it wasn’t about needing it… it was about how much it could help.

Now, using Alexa has quietly become part of my daily rhythm—and I genuinely enjoy it.

Here’s why.

1. It Simplifies Everyday Life

There’s something satisfying about speaking a request and having it happen instantly.

“Alexa, set a timer for 20 minutes.”
“Alexa, what’s the weather today?”
“Alexa, turn off the lights.”

It removes small bits of friction throughout the day. None of these tasks are difficult—but when you add them up, the convenience is real. It frees up just a little more mental space.

And at this stage of life, I value anything that helps me stay focused and uncluttered.

2. It Helps Me Stay Organized

I use Alexa for reminders more than I expected.

Appointments, tasks, even simple things like remembering to call someone—it’s like having a quiet assistant in the background keeping me on track.

I’ve learned that staying sharp isn’t about trying harder—it’s about using good tools wisely.

3. Music Is Always Within Reach

As a musician, this might be my favorite feature.

“Alexa, play worship music.”
“Alexa, play piano instrumentals.”
“Alexa, play songs by… ”

Within seconds, the room is filled with music.

Sometimes it’s for practice. Sometimes it’s for worship. Sometimes it’s just to create a peaceful atmosphere in the home.

Music has always been a big part of my life—and Alexa makes it instantly accessible.

4. It Creates a Better Home Environment

There’s something about walking into a room and being able to adjust lighting, play music, or hear the news—all with your voice.

It makes the home feel more responsive, more alive.

I’ve found it especially helpful in the mornings. A simple routine—lights on, a bit of music, maybe the day’s weather—helps start the day on the right note.

5. It Keeps Me Learning

I often ask random questions throughout the day:

“Alexa, who was Caleb in the Bible?”
“Alexa, what does this word mean?”
“Alexa, how far is… ?”

It keeps curiosity alive.

And that matters. Growth doesn’t stop just because we get older. In fact, it becomes even more important.

6. It’s Surprisingly Fun

There’s a lighthearted side to it too.

Sometimes I’ll ask a question just to see what kind of response I get. Or use it with grandkids—they love interacting with it.

It adds a small element of enjoyment to the home, and I’ve learned not to underestimate the value of that.

7. It Supports a Peaceful Rhythm

One unexpected benefit is how it helps me slow down.

Instead of reaching for my phone constantly, I can simply ask for what I need—time, weather, a song, a reminder.

Less screen time. More presence.

That’s a win.

Final Thought

Alexa hasn’t changed my life in a dramatic way—but it has improved the flow of my daily life.

It helps me stay organized.
It fills my home with music.
It simplifies small tasks.
And it adds a touch of enjoyment to everyday routines.

At this stage of life, I’m not looking for complexity—I’m looking for things that help me live well, stay sharp, and enjoy each day.

And in its own simple way… Alexa does exactly that.
