The Favour of God

There is something powerful and beautiful about the favour of God.
It is God opening doors you could never open yourself. It is His hand resting on your life in a special way. It is His blessing, guidance, protection, and kindness being poured out on ordinary people who walk closely with Him.

The favour of God can change everything.

One moment of God’s favor can accomplish more than years of human striving.

The Bible says:

“For You bless the godly, O Lord;
You surround them with Your shield of love.”
— Psalm 5:12

What Is the Favor of God?

The favour of God is not luck.
It is not charisma.
It is not manipulation.
It is not worldly success alone.

The favour of God is His gracious approval and blessing upon a person’s life.

Sometimes God’s favour brings opportunities.
Sometimes it brings protection.
Sometimes it brings strength during difficult seasons.
Sometimes it gives unusual influence and effectiveness.

People with God’s favour are not perfect people. They are people who trust Him, walk with Him, and honor Him.

Examples of God’s Favour in the Bible

Noah

“But Noah found favour with the Lord.”
— Genesis 6:8

In a corrupt and violent generation, Noah walked with God. While the world drifted away from God, Noah obeyed Him. God’s favour protected Noah and his family through the flood.

Joseph

Joseph was betrayed by his brothers, falsely accused, and imprisoned. Yet the Bible repeatedly says:

“The Lord was with Joseph.”
— Genesis 39

Even in prison, God’s favor rested on him. Eventually, Joseph rose to become second in command over Egypt.

God’s favour does not mean a life without hardship. Sometimes His favour sustains you through hardship until His purposes are fulfilled.

Esther

Esther was an orphan girl who became queen and helped save an entire nation.

“And Esther found favor in the eyes of everyone who saw her.”
— Esther 2:15

God placed her in the right place at the right time for a divine purpose.

Mary, the Mother of Jesus

The angel told Mary:

“Greetings, favoured woman! The Lord is with you!”
— Luke 1:28

God chose a humble young woman to carry the Savior of the world.

God often gives His favour to humble, willing hearts.

How Do We Receive the Favor of God?

1. Walk Closely With God

Favour grows in relationship.

You cannot live far from God and expect to consistently experience His hand upon your life.

Spend time with Him daily. Read His Word. Pray. Worship. Listen to His voice.

Psalm 84:11 says:

“For the Lord God is our sun and our shield.
He gives us grace and glory.
The Lord will withhold no good thing from those who do what is right.”

The closer you walk with God, the more aligned your life becomes with His purposes.

2. Live With Integrity

God’s favour often rests on people who are trustworthy and faithful.

Joseph honored God in private before he was promoted in public.

Daniel remained faithful in Babylon even when surrounded by compromise.

Integrity matters.

Many people want favour, but few want holiness.

Proverbs 3:3–4 says:

“Never let loyalty and kindness leave you!
Tie them around your neck as a reminder.
Write them deep within your heart.
Then you will find favour with both God and people.”

3. Stay Humble

Pride pushes God away. Humility draws Him near.

James 4:6 says:

“God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”

Some people lose favour because success changes them. They begin depending on themselves instead of God.

The healthiest attitude is this:

“Everything I have is because of God’s goodness.”

Humility keeps your heart teachable and grateful.

4. Be Faithful in Small Things

Many people pray for big opportunities while neglecting small responsibilities.

David was faithful as a shepherd long before he became king.

God often tests us in hidden places before promoting us publicly.

Jesus said:

“If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones.”
— Luke 16:10

Faithfulness attracts trust. Trust often leads to favor.

5. Treat People Well

God’s favour is closely connected to how we treat others.

Kindness matters. Generosity matters. Encouragement matters.

Some people pray for favour while damaging relationships through pride, gossip, anger, or selfishness.

Jesus taught us to love people deeply and sincerely.

A gracious spirit often opens doors that talent alone cannot open.

6. Obey God Quickly

Delayed obedience is still disobedience.

Many people want God’s blessing while resisting His direction.

When God speaks, respond quickly.

Abraham experienced God’s favour because he obeyed when God called him.

Obedience positions us for God’s purposes.

What God’s Favor Does NOT Mean

This is important.

God’s favour does not mean:

  • You will never suffer
  • You will always be wealthy
  • Everything will go smoothly
  • Everyone will like you

Jesus Himself had the favour of the Father, yet He was rejected, misunderstood, and crucified.

Sometimes God’s favour gives you strength to endure difficult seasons rather than escape them.

Paul experienced prison, persecution, and hardship, yet the hand of God remained powerfully on his life.

Pray for God’s Favor

It is good to pray for the favour of God upon your:

  • marriage
  • children
  • ministry
  • business
  • health
  • friendships
  • church
  • future

Moses prayed:

“May the favour of the Lord our God rest on us;
establish the work of our hands for us.”
— Psalm 90:17

That is a beautiful prayer.

“Lord, let Your favour rest upon my life.”

Final Thoughts

The favour of God is one of life’s greatest blessings.

When God’s hand is on your life:

  • doors open
  • strength increases
  • wisdom grows
  • opportunities appear
  • peace deepens
  • your life bears fruit

Do not chase favour with people more than favour with God.

If God’s hand is upon you, He can do more in one year than human effort can accomplish in twenty.

Walk closely with Him.
Stay humble.
Live with integrity.
Love people well.
Obey Him fully.

And trust that His favour is able to guide, protect, strengthen, and bless your life in ways far beyond what you can imagine.
