The Message of Life

“Go to the Temple and give the people this message of life!”
— Acts 5:20 (NLT)

The apostles had been arrested.

Their preaching about Jesus had stirred up opposition from the religious leaders. They were thrown into prison, and it appeared that their ministry had come to a sudden halt.

But God had other plans.

During the night, an angel of the Lord opened the prison doors, brought them out, and gave them a remarkable assignment:

“Go to the Temple and give the people this message of life!” (Acts 5:20)

Notice what the angel did not say.

He did not say, “Go teach a new religion.”

He did not say, “Go defend your beliefs.”

He did not say, “Go win arguments.”

Instead, he called the Gospel “the message of life.”

The World Is Looking For Life

Whether they realize it or not, people are searching for life.

They look for it in success, money, relationships, entertainment, travel, possessions, education, sports, and accomplishments. Yet many discover that these things, while enjoyable, cannot satisfy the deepest needs of the human heart.

Jesus said:

“My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.” (John 10:10)

The Gospel is not merely a set of doctrines to believe. It is an invitation into the life of God.

Jesus Is The Source Of Life

Throughout the New Testament, Jesus is described as life itself.

He declared:

“I am the way, the truth, and the life.” (John 14:6)

Peter later called Him:

“The Author of life.” (Acts 3:15)

John wrote:

“God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.” (1 John 5:11)

Life is not found in a philosophy, a church program, or a self-improvement plan.

Life is found in Jesus.

When we come to Christ, we receive forgiveness, peace with God, purpose, hope, and the promise of eternal life.

The Gospel Brings Life To Dead Places

The Bible teaches that apart from Christ we are spiritually dead.

Sin separates us from God and leaves us empty and broken. But the good news is that Jesus came to bring dead things back to life.

He restores hearts.

He renews minds.

He heals relationships.

He gives hope to the hopeless.

He gives strength to the weary.

He brings life where death has been at work.

This is why the apostles could not remain silent. They had experienced the life-changing power of Jesus firsthand.

We Are Still Messengers Of Life

The angel’s command still speaks to believers today.

Our culture is filled with bad news. Every day people hear reports of conflict, tragedy, division, and despair.

What a privilege to carry a different message.

We have a message of forgiveness for the guilty.

A message of hope for the discouraged.

A message of purpose for the confused.

A message of peace for the anxious.

A message of life for the spiritually dead.

The Gospel is not negative news—it is life-giving news.

The Religious Leaders Wanted Silence

The authorities wanted the apostles to stop talking about Jesus.

Yet the very next morning, they were back in the Temple courts preaching.

Why?

Because when you have discovered true life, it is difficult to keep it to yourself.

The apostles understood that people did not merely need more information. They needed life.

And so do people today.

A Final Thought

Imagine being awakened in the middle of the night by an angel, released from prison, and given one assignment:

“Go and tell the people the message of life.”

That assignment has never changed.

Wherever God has placed you—in your family, workplace, neighborhood, church, or circle of friends—you are a messenger of life.

People all around us are searching.

Some are searching for meaning.

Some are searching for hope.

Some are searching for peace.

Some are searching for God.

And the answer to every search is found in Jesus Christ, the Author of Life.

So let us boldly share the same message the apostles preached:

Jesus gives life—abundant life now and eternal life forever.
