“I will pour out My Spirit upon all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your old men will dream dreams, and your young men will see visions. In those days I will pour out My Spirit even on servants—men and women alike.”

There are promises in Scripture that reach across generations, and this is one of them.
Through the prophet Joel, God gave His people an extraordinary promise:
“I will pour out My Spirit upon all people.”
Think about that.
Not just upon a select few. Not only upon prophets, priests, kings, or spiritual leaders. God promised a day when His Spirit would be poured out upon all people.
When the Day of Pentecost came, Peter stood before the crowds and declared that what they were witnessing was the fulfillment of Joel’s prophecy.
The promised outpouring had begun.
And the message is still powerful for us today: you are never too young—and you are never too old—for God to use.
Your Sons and Daughters Will Prophesy
Joel said:
“Your sons and daughters will prophesy.”
God’s Spirit is not limited by gender. His presence, His gifts, and His power are available to men and women alike.
God delights in using ordinary people who are willing to be filled with His Spirit and surrendered to His purposes.
The question is not, “Am I important enough for God to use?”
The better question is, “Am I willing to be used by God?”
You do not have to be famous. You do not need an impressive title. You do not have to stand on a platform.
God is looking for willing hearts.
Young People Can See Visions
Joel also said:
“Your young men will see visions.”
There is something powerful about the faith, energy, creativity, and passion of young people.
Young people often see possibilities that others may overlook. They are willing to dream about what could be. They can look beyond the limitations of the present and believe that God can do something new.
We need a generation of young people who are filled with the Holy Spirit and who have a vision for what God wants to do.
We need young men and women who will not simply follow the culture but will seek God’s heart and pursue His purposes.
Never underestimate what God can do through a young person whose heart is fully surrendered to Him.
You are not too young.
God can use you now.
You’re Never Too Old to Dream
But Joel’s prophecy does not stop with the young.
“Your old men will dream dreams.”
I love that!
God has not finished with you simply because you have grown older.
There may be things you can no longer do physically. Your energy may not be what it once was. But there is no retirement age in the Kingdom of God.
You can still pray.
You can still encourage.
You can still mentor.
You can still serve.
And according to Joel, you can still dream.
Perhaps the dreams God places in your heart will inspire the next generation. Perhaps you will not personally accomplish everything you dream, but you can help equip, encourage, and release others to fulfill God’s purposes.
Never allow age to convince you that your most fruitful days are behind you.
As long as God gives you breath, He can still use your life for His glory.
You’re never too old to dream another dream, pray another prayer, or say yes to another assignment from God.
We Need Every Generation
One of the beautiful things about Joel’s prophecy is that it brings generations together.
The young see visions.
The old dream dreams.
Sons and daughters prophesy.
Men and women receive the outpouring of the Spirit.
This is a beautiful picture of the church.
The church is not meant to be divided into generations competing with one another. We need each other.
Older believers bring wisdom, experience, and stories of God’s faithfulness.
Younger believers bring energy, creativity, and fresh vision.
Together, we can accomplish far more than we ever could alone.
The church is strongest when generations honor one another, learn from one another, and serve God together.
The Spirit Is Poured Out on All People
Joel continues:
“I will pour out My Spirit even on servants—men and women alike.”
Social status does not determine who God can use.
Position does not determine it.
Age does not determine it.
Gender does not determine it.
God’s promise was for all people.
The Holy Spirit is not reserved for a spiritual elite.
God delights in taking ordinary people and empowering them to do extraordinary things for His glory.
You may feel unnoticed.
You may feel unqualified.
You may wonder whether you have anything significant to offer.
But remember this: God is not looking for perfect people. He is looking for willing people.
We Still Need the Holy Spirit
The promise given through Joel was fulfilled in a powerful way on the Day of Pentecost, but we still desperately need the ongoing work and empowering of the Holy Spirit.
We cannot accomplish God’s purposes in our own strength.
We need more than talent.
More than good programs.
More than technology.
More than impressive buildings.
More than human wisdom.
We need the Holy Spirit.
We need the Spirit of God to fill us, lead us, empower us, transform us, and use us.
Imagine what could happen if every generation in the church began seeking God together.
Imagine children learning to hear the voice of God.
Imagine young people catching a vision for the Kingdom.
Imagine older believers refusing to believe that their best days of serving God are behind them.
Imagine men and women, young and old, all seeking to be filled with the Holy Spirit.
That is the picture Joel gives us.
God Can Use You—Right Where You Are
Perhaps you are young and wondering whether God can really use you.
He can.
Perhaps you are older and wondering whether your best days are behind you.
Don’t stop dreaming.
Perhaps you feel ordinary, unnoticed, or unqualified.
Don’t count yourself out.
Joel’s prophecy reminds us that there is a place for everyone in God’s purposes.
Young and old.
Sons and daughters.
Men and women.
Leaders and servants.
The Spirit is for every generation.
So let us continue to pray:
“Lord, pour out Your Spirit upon us. Give the young visions. Give the old dreams. Speak through sons and daughters. Empower Your people to live for Your glory and accomplish Your purposes in this generation.”
Never think you are too young to make a difference for God.
And never believe you are too old to be useful in His Kingdom.
If you are still here, God is not finished with you.
You are never too young—or too old—for God to use.
