The Good Things God Wants for You

One of the most encouraging truths in the Bible is that God is a good Father who desires good things for His children. Many people view God as distant, demanding, or difficult to please. Yet Scripture paints a very different picture. From Genesis to Revelation, we see a God who loves us deeply and desires our flourishing.

The Bible says:

“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11 NLT)

God’s ultimate goal is not simply our comfort but our transformation. He wants us to become more like Jesus while experiencing the joy, peace, and purpose found in walking with Him.

Here are some of the good things God wants for us.

1. God Wants Us to Know Him Personally

More than anything else, God desires a relationship with us.

Jesus said:

“This is the way to have eternal life—to know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the One You sent to earth.” (John 17:3 NLT)

Christianity is not merely following rules or attending church. It is knowing God as Father, Friend, Shepherd, and Savior. He invites us to walk with Him every day through prayer, worship, and His Word.

2. God Wants Us to Experience His Love

Many people spend their lives trying to earn approval, acceptance, and significance. God offers these freely through Christ.

Paul prayed:

“May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully.” (Ephesians 3:19 NLT)

God’s love is not based on our performance. It is rooted in His character. The more we understand His love, the more secure, confident, and joyful we become.

3. God Wants Us to Have Peace

Our world is filled with anxiety, stress, and uncertainty. Yet Jesus offers a peace that circumstances cannot destroy.

He said:

“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart.” (John 14:27 NLT)

God does not promise a trouble-free life, but He does promise His presence in every storm. His peace guards our hearts and minds when we trust Him.

4. God Wants Us to Grow in Character

God is far more interested in who we are becoming than what we are accumulating.

The fruit of the Spirit includes:

  • Love
  • Joy
  • Peace
  • Patience
  • Kindness
  • Goodness
  • Faithfulness
  • Gentleness
  • Self-control

These qualities are God’s workmanship in our lives. Every challenge, victory, and setback can become an opportunity for spiritual growth.

5. God Wants Us to Live with Purpose

God has never created anyone by accident.

The Bible says:

“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago.” (Ephesians 2:10 NLT)

God has given each of us gifts, abilities, experiences, and opportunities that can be used to serve others and glorify Him. A life lived for God’s purposes is a life of lasting significance.

6. God Wants Us to Be Fruitful

Jesus compared His followers to branches connected to a vine.

“Those who remain in Me, and I in them, will produce much fruit.” (John 15:5 NLT)

God wants our lives to make a difference. He desires that our words, actions, service, generosity, and witness bring blessing to others. A fruitful life is one that points people toward Jesus.

7. God Wants Us to Enjoy Healthy Relationships

God designed us for community. He wants us to love and be loved.

Healthy marriages, strong friendships, loving families, and vibrant church communities are gifts from God. He calls us to forgive, encourage, serve, and support one another.

Life is richer when we walk together.

8. God Wants Us to Experience Joy

Many believers think holiness and happiness are opposites. The Bible teaches the opposite.

David wrote:

“You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of Your presence and the pleasures of living with You forever.” (Psalm 16:11 NLT)

God delights in giving His children joy. We see His goodness in laughter, friendship, worship, beauty, meaningful work, family, and countless daily blessings.

9. God Wants Us to Finish Well

God is not only concerned about where we are today but where we will be decades from now.

The Christian life is a marathon, not a sprint.

God wants us to remain faithful, keep growing, continue serving, and finish our race with integrity and joy. The greatest victories often belong to those who simply keep walking with Him year after year.

10. God Wants Us to Spend Eternity with Him

The greatest gift God offers is eternal life through Jesus Christ.

Jesus came so that our sins could be forgiven and our relationship with God could be restored. Heaven is not merely a place; it is eternal fellowship with the God who loves us.

The story of Scripture begins with God walking with people in a garden and ends with God dwelling with His people forever.

Final Thoughts

God is not against you. He is for you.

He wants you to know Him, experience His love, walk in His peace, grow in character, live with purpose, bear fruit, enjoy meaningful relationships, experience joy, finish well, and spend eternity with Him.

James reminds us:

“Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father.” (James 1:17 NLT)

Every good thing ultimately finds its source in Him.

Today, take a moment to thank God for His goodness. Then ask Him to help you embrace all the good things He desires for your life.

Psalm 84:11: “The Lord will withhold no good thing from those who do what is right.”
