“Then times of refreshment will come from the presence of the Lord, and He will again send you Jesus, your appointed Messiah.” — Acts 3:20 (NLT)
We all know what it feels like to be weary.
Life has a way of draining us. Responsibilities, disappointments, losses, sickness, financial pressures, ministry challenges, and simply growing older can leave us feeling exhausted. Even faithful believers can find themselves spiritually tired and emotionally depleted.
That is why I love Peter’s promise in Acts 3:20:
“Then times of refreshment will come from the presence of the Lord.”
What a beautiful phrase—times of refreshment.

God Knows We Need Refreshing
Throughout Scripture, God reveals Himself as One who restores weary people.
David wrote:
“He renews my strength.” (Psalm 23:3)
Isaiah declared:
“Those who trust in the Lord will find new strength.” (Isaiah 40:31)
Jesus invited the weary:
“Come to Me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)
God never intended us to live solely on yesterday’s strength. Just as our bodies need food and water daily, our souls need continual renewal from God’s presence.
Refreshment Comes From His Presence
Notice where the refreshment comes from.
Peter did not say refreshment comes from success, possessions, vacations, entertainment, or even ministry achievements.
He said it comes “from the presence of the Lord.”
There is something powerful about simply spending time with God.
As we pray, worship, read His Word, and quietly sit before Him, He renews our perspective. He calms our fears. He strengthens our faith. He reminds us that He is in control.
Many believers have discovered that some of the greatest moments of refreshment occur not when circumstances change, but when they encounter God in the middle of difficult circumstances.
His presence changes everything.
Repentance Opens the Door
The context of Peter’s words is important.
Just before this promise, Peter urged the people:
“Now repent of your sins and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped away.” (Acts 3:19)
Then comes the promise of refreshment.
Repentance is not merely feeling sorry for sin. It is turning back toward God. It is removing the barriers that hinder our fellowship with Him.
When we humble ourselves, confess our sins, and return to Him wholeheartedly, we often discover that the joy we lost begins to return.
The refreshing presence of God flows most freely into surrendered hearts.
Refreshment for Every Season
One of the wonderful truths of Scripture is that God refreshes His people in every stage of life.
He refreshes young believers who are learning to trust Him.
He refreshes parents carrying heavy responsibilities.
He refreshes pastors and ministry leaders who are pouring themselves out for others.
He refreshes seniors who have walked with Him for decades and still desire fresh encounters with His Spirit.
God never runs out of renewal.
The same Lord who strengthened Moses, David, Elijah, Peter, and Paul is still refreshing His people today.
Looking Forward to the Return of Jesus
Peter’s promise also points beyond our present experience.
He says that God “will again send you Jesus, your appointed Messiah.“
Every refreshing touch of God’s presence today reminds us that something even greater is coming. One day Jesus will return. Every burden will be lifted. Every tear will be wiped away. Every struggle with sin will end.
The refreshment we experience now is only a foretaste of the eternal joy that awaits God’s people.
A Simple Prayer
Perhaps you feel weary today.
Maybe your body is tired. Maybe your heart is discouraged. Maybe your faith feels weak.
Take a few moments to draw near to God.
Open His Word.
Talk to Him honestly.
Worship Him.
Wait quietly in His presence.
The God who refreshed David, Peter, and countless believers throughout history is able to refresh you today.
And as you seek Him, you may discover that His promise is still true:
“Times of refreshment will come from the presence of the Lord.”
