“You killed the Author of life, but God raised Him from the dead. And we are witnesses of this fact!” — Acts 3:15
One of the most powerful titles given to Jesus in the Bible is found in Peter’s sermon after the healing of the lame man at the temple. Speaking boldly to the crowd, Peter declared that they had killed “the Author of life,” but God had raised Him from the dead.
What a remarkable description of Jesus.
In John 14:6, Jesus said:
“I am the way, the truth, and the life.”
Peter later called Him:
“The Author of life.”
Together, these statements reveal one of the greatest truths in Scripture: Jesus is not merely a teacher of life, a guide to life, or an example of life—He is life itself.

What Does “Author of Life” Mean?
The word “author” can mean originator, founder, creator, pioneer, or source.
Peter was saying that Jesus is the One from whom all life comes.
He is the Creator.
He is the Sustainer.
He is the Giver of eternal life.
The Apostle John wrote:
“God created everything through Him, and nothing was created except through Him.” (John 1:3)
Paul echoed the same truth:
“For through Him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth… He existed before anything else, and He holds all creation together.” (Colossians 1:16-17)
Every heartbeat, every breath, every sunrise, every mountain, every ocean, every human life ultimately finds its source in Jesus Christ.
He is the Author of life.
The Great Irony
Peter’s statement contains a profound irony:
“You killed the Author of life.”
How could human beings kill the One who created life?
How could the Creator be rejected by His creation?
Yet this is exactly what happened.
The religious leaders rejected Him.
The crowds turned against Him.
The Roman authorities crucified Him.
Humanity took the Author of life and nailed Him to a cross.
But death could not hold Him.
The grave could not contain Him.
Three days later, Jesus rose from the dead, proving that He is stronger than sin, stronger than Satan, and stronger than death itself.
The resurrection was God’s declaration that Jesus truly is the Author of life.
Life Is Found In Him
Many people spend their lives searching for fulfillment.
They seek life in success.
They seek life in money.
They seek life in pleasure.
They seek life in relationships.
They seek life in achievements.
Yet Jesus said:
“My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.” (John 10:10)
The deepest needs of the human heart can only be met by the One who created the human heart.
We were designed by Him and for Him.
As a fish was created for water, we were created for fellowship with God.
Until we find our life in Christ, something will always be missing.
The Author of Eternal Life
Physical life is a gift.
But eternal life is an even greater gift.
Jesus came not only to give us life here and now but to give us life forever.
He promised:
“I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in Me will live, even after dying.” (John 11:25)
Because Jesus conquered death, those who trust Him can face the future with confidence.
For the believer, death is not the end of the story.
The Author of life is still writing.
He writes chapters of grace, redemption, growth, purpose, and ultimately eternal glory.
The Author Is Still Writing Your Story
One of the beautiful truths of Scripture is that God is not finished with us.
The Author of life is also the Author of our faith.
He takes broken people and gives them hope.
He takes failures and gives them a future.
He takes sinners and makes them saints.
He takes ordinary lives and fills them with eternal significance.
No matter what chapter you are currently living, Jesus is still writing your story.
Your mistakes are not the final chapter.
Your disappointments are not the final chapter.
Your losses are not the final chapter.
The Author of life is still at work.
Final Thoughts
Peter stood before a crowd and boldly proclaimed that Jesus is “the Author of life.”
Two thousand years later, that truth remains unchanged.
Jesus is the source of all life.
He is the giver of eternal life.
He is the conqueror of death.
He is the One who holds all things together.
And He is still inviting people everywhere to come to Him and discover true life.
The One who authored life can also author a new beginning for you.
Trust Him.
Follow Him.
Walk with Him.
For in Him, and in Him alone, we find life that is abundant, meaningful, and eternal.
